How did we get here?

Years ago, Daniel Patrick Moyniham said, “Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts.”

Well, that used to be the case, but now – and we have to thank the internet for this – everyone seems to be ‘entitled’ to their own facts. What ever ‘truth’ (notice the lowercase) once was, it ain’t that now. It’s almost like gravity or the existence of oxygen is debatable. Yet facts seems to no longer matter, reason seems to have been chucked out the window.

So back to the question at the top: how did we get here, and more to the point, and how do we get back to some kind of reason?
