A Powerful Woman in Your Own Life!
Hello class, I hope this finds you all well.
For our discussion this week I would like to simplify our topic and hopefully allow it to be a bit more personal for you and for the class as a whole.
You have spent time listening to Wendy Wasserstein, looking over the history of women’s equality, and the history of women in the Theatre and Cinema.
In light of all your research and work this week, I would like you to discuss your own personal influences in your own life by a strong woman or women. Who in your life has supported you, pushed you, challenged you and kept or keep you centered and on the strait and narrow for the places, careers, hopes and dreams that you have had in the past and those hopes and dreams that you would like to pursue for the future?
Has there been a strong woman in your life that you can look to as an example for how you see the world, make choices, and live out your daily life?
What would you say is an influential lesson or lessons that they have had on your life? What and how can this influence be encouraging to others?
If you were to write a play about this woman in your life, what would the title be and what kind of play would you write? A Comedy, Drama, Tragedy, Musical? Why or why not?
Please make sure you post is a minimum 150 words and that you respond to two others with a minimum of 150 words.

My sister, Misa, has always been a woman that I have looked up to. My parents are divorced, and I lived with my father my entire life and my mother was overseas or out of state. So naturally I turned to my oldest sister for motherly support when I needed it. I found that when I was at the worst points in my life, she was always able to keep me calm and offer me rational support. She has helped guide me through high school and college with support from her personal experiences as well. I admire her for always knowing what to do and climbing herself to where she is now.
Has there been a strong woman in your life that you can look to as an example for how you see the world, make choices, and live out your daily life?
As I mentioned above. My sister has been that person for me. Unlike a mother who might not see the world the way I do, my sister is closer to me in age and understands easily the things that twenty-something year-olds go through. She was always the smartest and never really got into trouble where as I was the opposite as a child.
What would you say is an influential lesson or lessons that they have had on your life? What and how can this influence be encouraging to others?
She has always taught me that there are solutions to my problems. Any time I had something she always offered a solution in terms of my life-plans or even how to deal with certain people or situations. I think this influence can be encouraging and help others because everybody goes through a time where they feel there is no solution and just need someone else to sit there and listen and guide them through.
If you were to write a play about this woman in your life, what would the title be and what kind of play would you write? A Comedy, Drama, Tragedy, Musical? Why or why not?
If I were to write a play about my sister I would probably name it after her. “Misa” is unique enough to stand out and grab people’s attention, and I would want the play to focus on her life. It would definitely be a Comedy/Musical because she has very funny and quirky moments. She also really likes watching musicals so I would want to draw from that and create one about her.

There is a member of the professional staff at CSUF who has always taken the time out of her day to support and guide me during my college experience. Dr. Oseguera was the Dean of Students when I was a freshman. She helped me navigate my academic career and introduced me to several opportunities on campus that have really helped shape the person I am today. Dr. Oseguera was a crucial figure during my campaign for president of the campus because she motivated me to be the best leader I could be and to take advantage of the opportunity to serve.
Dr. Osegura helps me see multiple perspectives and reminds me that I have the freedom to make decisions on my own. I think she has helped me recognize that I am my own person and has empowered me to be more ambitious in my goals. Her academic achievements and dedication to her career has inspired me to push myself to consider a much more thorough plan for graduate school. I know she is willing to invest her time with several students on an individual basis because I have friends who share the same experience I have had with her.
I feel that Dr. Oseguera would appreciate a dramatic musical. She is very appreciative of the arts and has always expressed how grateful she is for musicals. The title would be “Woman I Am” and it would feature songs inspired by her ethnic background (South American) and would follow her journey through her education and upbringing. I think Dr. Oseguera is an inspiration in her character as well as her ambition and I feel that expressing this in the form of a musical would be a tribute to her lively personality.
