Following instructions on page 83 of the Trimbur text, write a two page essay stating your position on the controversial issue that you described in your notes and that

were approved
by your instructor.

You may use the student example on pages 84-86 as an example of what a position essay looks like or you may organize this paper in one of two ways:

• Introduce the issue and provide some background information
  
  of
  the issue
• Summarize differing views fairly and accurately
• Explain where you stand by refuting or conceding points about some of the views and by showing the strength of the position that you have taken.
• Provide evidence that supports your position
• Point out the wider significance/importance of the position that you have taken.

Or you may prefer to organize the paper that words point by point from differing views and your position.

• Introduce the background of the issue, describe the controversy and your position
• Provide the first point of difference between your position and that of others and provides your evidence for why your position is stronger.
• Provide the second point of difference and your strategy for dealing with the difference.
• Provide the third point of difference and again provides evidence and your reasoning for why your position is stronger
• Present your own position and your reasons for its preference over other’s

Use MLA documentation of all sources if sources are used. Sources are not required.

Use Times New Roman 12pt font.

Double space the paper

The content of the essay must be two full pages and half. The title of the essay and your name should be on a separate cover page.
