It has been said that literature is not created in a vacuum. To demonstrate this point, for the author you have chosen you will create a presentation based on research to show how his or her works were shaped by and, in turn, may have shaped culture.

You will be expected to read a biographical material about the person as well as the novel you selected. Through research, you will learn about the major historical events occurring in the world during the writer’s lifetime and/or the major personal or historical events that shaped the writer’s literature. Finally, you should consider the cultural background of your author and discover how the author conforms, represents, and continues those cultural values in his or her writing.

As a result of your reading and research, you will create a 10 slide presentation. Submit your PowerPoint slides. Be sure to follow the rubric when developing your presentation.

  • At least two slides analyzing how the author confirms, represents, and continues those cultural values in his or her writing.
  • At least 7 multi-media elements must be included (images, videos, hyperlinks, etc.).
  • Presentation demonstrates a strong understanding of novel.
  • One slide includes a Works Cited where all information gathered about the selection is included.

  • Presentation is free of spelling or word use errors.
  • Presentation is free of run-on sentences or sentence fragments.
