Examples include Kamen Riders by Shotaro Ishinomori and Tetsujin 28-go by Mitsuteru Yokoyama. Mecha is one of the main branches of shonen which developed after WWII. The war was a painful experience for the Japanese who were not only forced to surrender but were discouraged from promoting any militarism during the American occupation. As a result, manga such as mecha emerged which allowed the nation to dream of greatness again.
